"We’ve never fit into the laws, the rules, the habits of this world. Besides, it remains too “small” for us to fit into. We loved real life and freedom and these are what we will always fight for."
Olga Ekonomidou
On the 48th day of Dimitris Koufontinas' sixth hunger strike against the massive aggravation of his situation under the Nea Demokratia government, the Greek consulate in Berlin was occupied in February 2021. Dimitris Koufontinas was demanding to be returned to the basement of Korydallos Prison in Athens, where he had spent 16 years, from the high security prison Domokos, in order to be closer to his family and lawyers. By this time, the "17th of November" member's health had deteriorated significantly and the government had made it clear that it would rather let him die than give in to his demands.
During the occupation, a banner was hung from the building and a statement regarding the occupation was sent to various places of interest both locally and abroad to draw attention to Koufontina's situation and to increase pressure on the Greek government.
The occupation joined an international campaign of solidarity with the striker and was supported by other prisoners and structures worldwide.
In the course of the occupation nine people were identified, six of them were taken into custody and some of them had to give fingerprints and were photographed.
