Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Political Repressions

The Day of the Political Prisoner in the USSR was an initiative in 1974 by imprisoned Soviet dissidents, led by Kronid Lyubarsky for the recognition of inmates' status as political prisoners. Their statement outlined the main difficulties of the life led by political prisoners; excessively long terms of imprisonment; bad and severely insufficient food, which cannot be supplemented from parcels, as these are strictly limited as to both their weight and numbers; widespread and unsupervised punitive measures; oppressive work conditions; bad medical services, and so on. The statement emphasizes that the political prisoners “have been convicted for actions, opinions and intentions which would not be regarded as grounds for prosecution in a democratic country”.

It's the day for those "repressed" (i.e. arrested, exiled, sent to the camps or shot) during the collectivisation of agriculture (1927-1933), in the forced-labour camps of the Gulag, and shot in their tens of thousands during the Great Terror of 1937-1938.

Let this date bring together all not indifferent to commemorate the victims of the regime back then and now, in 2018. Since russia is the direct successor of soviet onion, it's penitary system is still much alike GULAG - the conditions are inhuman, prisoners are exploited as cheap labor force (the most of the special uniform for cops and army is made in prison). Political activists get excessive terms of imprisonment for sharing information, for demonstrating, for creating any oppotision in general. They get attacked, beaten, tortured, shot, locked up after fabricated cases, numerous people are forced into exile.
